Convene Green Alliance (CGA) Continues to Lead

Managed by IMN Solutions, the Convene Green Alliance moves towards its two year anniversary in March of 2010, the organization looks back on 2009 as a year of growing and strengthening our mission.  Association membership in the CGA grew by over 400%, further cementing our reputation as the industry leader in providing green resources to the association community.  In addition, the CGA continued its successful series of educational programs, or Focus Forums, by conducting six of the live, interactive events throughout the year.  Over 600 association and hospitality industry members attended the Forums and acquired valuable information to bring back to their organizations.

In addition to hosting six successful events, the Convene Green Alliance increased its communication to its members in many important ways.  It launched Meet Naturally, an online e-newsletter with valuable information from around the hospitality and meeting industries relating to green meetings.  The e-newsletter is a members-only benefit so make sure you’re not missing out.  If you’re already a member, watch for the next issue of Meet Naturally to land in your inbox in early January.

Tracey Messina, the Executive Director of CGA is also reaching out to members on a weekly basis with the CGA’s Weekly Green.  She shares interesting articles and offers updates on everything green, as it relates to association and meeting management.  If you haven’t been receiving either of these member benefits, contact Sara Meeks at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. As always, the CGA website is constantly being updated with new articles and resources for associations aiming to reduce their environmental footprint.  You can learn about resources like the CGA’s Facility Self-Evaluation Tool which enables planners to compare hotel and convention center green initiatives easily during the RFP process.

AIMC to Launch in 2010

Now more than ever, it is time to embrace the dynamic global marketplace.  As we did with the success of the Convene Green Alliance, IMN Solutions will be the industry leader in global expansion by launching the Alliance for International Meetings and Commerce (AIMC) this month.  Comprised of executives from associations and other international-minded organizations, AIMC will be headquartered in New York with offices in Mougins, France and Shanghai, China.

Tasked with a mission to encourage partnerships in the development of meetings and commerce worldwide, AIMC will bring together industries and professional societies in a common forum to expand global growth and business opportunities.  Led by organizations such as the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), Broadsoft corporation, the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), Hilton Hotels Worldwide, the International Foundation for Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP), the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) and World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO), to name a few, AIMC aims to unite partners to be a broad network of industries and leaders having resources to develop and promote global meetings and commerce opportunities.  We acknowledge the importance of adding this strong international contingency to the IMN Solutions offerings.

IMN Solutions Strategic Partner Receives “Best of Show” Award

I am proud to announce that Attendance Marketing, an international event-marketing agency and IMN Solutions strategic partner, has received top recognition from the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) as part of its Art of the Show competition.

Each year, the IAEE presents Art of the Show Competition, which recognizes excellence in promotional materials for the exhibitions and events industry. Awards are given in 13 different categories and in three show sizes. Out of the 166 submissions from around the world, 32 entries were selected as first-place winners and 30 received an honorable mention for their use of marketing to promote an exhibition.

For its work promoting attendance at its clients’ conferences, Attendance Marketing received the “Best of Show” Award in the Most Innovative Use of Technology category. This is the first time in the history of the competition that an entry received a perfect score. Attendance Marketing also received First-Place awards in the categories of Most Innovative Use of Technology; Show Promotion – Web site (under 50,000); and, Sponsorship Development Program (under 50,000).

Adding Communication Value to Your Meetings

As associations reshape their value propositions in the face of an uncertain economy, we must all carefully consider how our communications support and promote what we do. It is critical that association meetings use the best communication strategies to reach potential attendees, exhibitors, the media, and other audiences with the right messages.

As a full-service association, foundation, and meeting management company, IMN Solutions has the expertise to help you maximize your communications. We asked Al Rickard, president of Association Vision, our communications partner, to tell us what will be most important for association communications in 2010. Here’s what he had to say:

2010 is a year of redefining value. Whatever worked in past years is probably not enough to sustain and build value in a world where every expenditure (especially attending meetings!) is under intense scrutiny.

So use communications to your advantage. Start by conducting research to identify what members really need this year from your meeting and create a program that delivers that value. Then use a structured messaging process in a half-day workshop to sharply define your messages to key audiences and differentiate your meeting from competitors.

With your messages in place, re-assess your communication strategy and vehicles. A successful program will include direct mail, e-mail communications and marketing, media placements, cross-promotions and leveraged marketing with strategic partners, social media buzz, and more. This mix will evolve every year as member communication preferences change.

Then consider what on-site communication value you offer attendees. For example, do you have a hashtag Twitter platform where attendees can share ideas and experiences in real time before, during, and after the meeting? Do you have a robust onsite public relations effort to reach the trade press and/or local media? Do you publish a daily e-newsletter or print newspaper with highlights from the previous day? Do you offer a media training seminar for volunteer leaders to hone their skills to speak on behalf of your association and industry?

IMN Solutions Confirms Major Support for New NSTA Headquarter Offices

We are pleased and proud to announce that IMN Solutions will be a major sponsor of the National Science Teachers Association’s (NSTA) John Glenn Center for Science Education.   The Center will be a $30 million state-of-the-art, LEED Platinum certified facility that will serve as a central gathering place for science educators seeking to take the lead on important issues affecting their field. Located in Arlington, Virginia, the Glenn Center will advocate for quality science education; provide both a virtual and concrete science education learning center; and enable new teachers, science educators, administrators, and lawmakers to gather for symposia, conferences, and workshops.

A highlight of the building will be a multimedia training and conference facility located on the top floor.  The entrance to this new conference facility will be branded by IMN Solutions and the entire facility and its programs will be supported by the CGA, the AIMC as well as our network of clients, hospitality partners and other interested parties.  In addition, IMN Solutions plans to relocate its headquarter office to the Glenn Center to enhance this opportunity and partnership.

IMN Solutions Upcoming Focus Forum

In early 2010, IMN Solutions will begin conducting issue-oriented, live events that will address current challenges being faced by associations and solutions to those challenges.  These events will be similar to the popular Focus Forums conducted by the CGA, however, will cover the complete spectrum of IMN Solutions service offerings.  Our staff is preparing for our first program in February and we are excited about presenting the advantages of the power of the network.

As IMN Solutions continues to grow our client base and the services we provide them, the need to bring on new, talented individuals remains of utmost importance.  Since the last President’s Message, IMN Solutions has added four employees to the headquarter office in Arlington.  Please join us in welcoming:

Tracey Messina

Tracey came to IMN Solutions from the Public Housing Authorities Directors Association (PHADA) where she was the Director of Meetings.  Here at IMN Solutions, she has taken the role of National Account Director, providing full management services to select client organizations and also serves as the Executive Director for the Convene Green Alliance.  Prior to PHADA, Tracey worked for the Electronic Retailing Association (ERA) as the Manager of Meetings and Conferences.  We’re thrilled to add her extensive experience to the team.

Mike Rudy

Mike has joined our team as Meetings and Administrative Coordinator.  Mike oversees the accounts receivable and payable systems, auditing, office management, operations, and client relations—among many other tasks.  Before coming to IMN Solutions, Mike worked as a recruiter for Nour USA, a government contractor.

Ashley Davis

Ashley comes to us from Starwood Hotels and Resorts working at the Westin Buckhead in sales and marketing and most recently at the St. Regis Atlanta as part of the pre-opening team.  Ashley is a Meetings Coordinator and will be handling multiple tasks for the company, including contract negotiations, office management, operations, company event planning and client relations.

Kristin Geiger

Kristin has joined IMN Solutions as an Administrative Assistant.  She is providing administrative support in all facets of the booking process including sending out leads, compiling reports, creating contracts, etc.  Kristin came to IMN Solutions from the corporate sector, working as a buyer and inventory manager in the paper industry.

New Offices

IMN Solutions is not only growing in personnel, we’re also expanding the coverage of our remote offices.  In January 2010, our New York City office will open.  In addition, to increase our global reach and to add additional support to our Alliance for International Meetings and Commerce, IMN Solutions will expand our worldwide presence from the current office in Mougins, France to an additional office in Shanghai, China in early 2010.  I will personally be heading up the N.Y. office and will be overseeing our global expansion.
