All the Buzz: Future Convention Cities Initiative
Convention centers and the organizations that work to fill them are used to seeing their counterparts in other cities as the competition, going after the same big expos. A coalition of seven major destination marketing organizations is trying a different approach, sharing ideas and information in an effort to improve the overall stature of the events industry.
“It’s all about progressing the sector as a key economic driver—for any city or country,” says Lyn Lewis-Smith, CEO of Business Events Sydney and chairwoman of the Future Convention Cities Initiative. “I’m happy to share [information] with anyone that wants to take it, because I think it’s [helping] our sector…be taken a lot more seriously.”

IMEX America: Perfect Storm of Event Success
Last fall's inaugural IMEX America had everything: more than 140 global exhibitors, a wide range of education, a setting in one of the world's most convention-friendly cities, partnerships with every event industry organization under the sun (or so it seemed!), and—maybe most important—a meeting and incentive community that was fed up with three years of recession and eager to get back to business.
Held in Las Vegas last October, IMEX America drew 3,700 attendees (including some 2,000 hosted buyers) and nearly 2,000 exhibitors. By all accounts, it was a fantastic launch of a new show.Read More

U.S. Travel Hits the Campaign Trail
As members of both the Democratic and Republican parties converge on the cities of Charlotte, SC, and Tampa, FL for their respective national conventions, the U.S. Travel Association is taking every opportunity to remind them that travel not only matters, but is a crucial component of the American economy — and the very conventions that are bringing them together. According to the U.S. Travel Association, the travel industry contributes $1.9 trillion total to the U.S. economy alone.
